Navigating the ins and outs of thyroid disorder can be a massive challenge! There are dietary issues to consider, metabolic challenges, lifestyle changes to incorporate and even brain-thyroid connections to take into account!
But there is one absolute “must-avoid” if you’re suffering from thyroid disease.
There’s one supplement that you should avoid like it’s the plague– folic acid. Normally, Vitamin B-9 is an excellent, excellent supplement.
The problem here is we have folic acid which is the synthesized version why versus folate which is the non-synthesized version.
Why Avoid Folic Acid?
If you take folic acid in any of your supplements it will actually block the receptor sites for folate and you will not have proper “methylation pathways.” This basically means that there’s no way you can have proper thyroid function if you’re blocking those pathways with folic acid.
Stop what you’re doing (once you finish reading this, of course), go look in your supplement cabinet and make sure there is no folic acid in any of the supplements that you’re taking.
If there are, replace them with things that contain folate which is the natural form. The other way to get folate is by eating green leafy vegetables.
That’s why green leafy vegetables are so amazing– they are loaded with the natural folate versus folic acid!
